Swsh wasn't the best, but it got more hate than it deserved. Let's go are great and probably the most polished pokemon game on switch, but also, there's very little content. Scarlet and violet are the only pokemon games I set down after 5 hours because of pure boredom the whole time. That hasn't happened in any pokemon game in the past
Switch games that run great on the Steam Deck. For whoever's interested, here is a list of switch games that run great on Yuzu (60fps, barely any stutter & quick loading times) The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (slight graphical issues) Kirby and The Forgotten Lands (better with mods/crashes/can have visual issues)
Also, I didn't like sprites for the updated Diamond & Pearl games. I own the following Nintendo Switch Pokemon games: Let's Go Pikachu, Sword, Legends of Arceus, & Violet. It seems difficult to purchase authentic game cartridges from the previous generations of Pokemon games, so I can't recommend any of those wholeheartedly. For a kid that age, probably Let's Go, but you could also try Sword or Shield. At that age, the main barrier to Sword/Shield is the Wild Area, as I could see a kid that age getting a bit "lost" as to where to go, whereas Let's Go is a much more linear game. 4. BurrStreetX. The Nintendo Switch has a robust library of great games—so many, in fact, that it's tough to know where to start. Here, as selected by the writers and editors of Kotaku, are the best games for

Pokemon in general is good for kids because it doesn't require things like fast reactions, timing jumps, etc. A lot of it is walking around and turn-based battles. However, the games are text heavy, so depending on reading ability, they may struggle. I suppose a lot of the text is unnecessary, like people talking.

GamesHub - Leah Williams - 4 / 5. While overtly silly and over-the-top at times, Detective Pikachu Returns effectively balances its light with its extreme darks, wielding its cuteness as a tool to tell an impactful and fairly relevant tale about corruption, felt throughout various cases. God is a Geek - Adam Cook - 7 / 10.

Pokemon Arceus completely skips the whole "travel the region, see cities and people, fight gyms, etc". Its one evolving hub and numerous near-empty open world zones. Mechanics are fine, but it feels dull after a while. Although still, the story is good and surprisingly mature for a pokemon game. Pokemon S/V suffers massively from its open world.

Ultra Sun and Moon are 3DS games, not Switch games. Your options for Switch are: Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee - weird remakes of gen 1 that are closer to Pokémon go and they’re super simple and bland. Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - awful remakes of gen 4 that don’t do anything new or exciting and have a terrible aesthetic. Sword/Shield - my HN9Tg.
